The history of Pepsi begins in New Bern. New Bern was the location where one of the most popular drinks in the world was created. Pepsi is a carbonated soft drink manufactured by PepsiCo today. Originally created and developed in 1893 by Caleb Bradham, a pharmacist and businessman from Duplin County, North Carolina.
The drink was introduced as Brad’s Drink by Bradham because it was advertised to relieve dyspepsia (upset stomach). He coined the name “Pepsi-Cola” and renamed it Pepsi-Cola while marketing the drink from his pharmacy in New Bern, North Carolina in 1898. “Pepsi-Cola” was shortened to Pepsi in 1961.
